ACME Environmental has been a pioneer in oil spill response since 1967, evolving from an environmental product manufacturer to a comprehensive environmental services company. As the 10th U.S. Coast Guard-certified Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO #0010) registered in 1990, ACME brings over 58 years of expertise in protecting marine and land ecosystems through efficient emergency response and innovative environmental solutions.
Founded by Howard Stanfield as ACME Products in 1967, the company became one of the first in the world to manufacture oil spill containment boom and skimmers, supporting major spill responses including the Amoco Cadiz (1978), Bay of Campeche (1979), and Exxon Valdez (1989). Following the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, ACME expanded into full-service spill response operations and was among the first companies certified under the new OSRO program.
Since Andrew Altendorf acquired the company in 2005, ACME Environmental has grown into a diversified environmental company supporting operations from initial emergency response through final site remediation. The company has supported national responses including the 2010 BP Macondo Oil Spill, 2014 Kirby Barge Collision, and 2015 Avian Bird Flu Outbreak, while maintaining robust regional response capabilities across the United States.
ACME Environmental specializes in comprehensive oil spill response as a U.S. Coast Guard-certified OSRO, providing rapid deployment of containment boom, temporary storage, skimming equipment, and trained response personnel. The company manufactures proprietary containment products including Perma-Boom permanent floating barriers and custom-engineered containment systems designed for long-term marine debris control and spill exclusion from sensitive facilities.
Our remediation division provides contaminated soil excavation with off-site disposal, in-situ blending and stabilization, and ex-situ chemical oxidation treatment utilizing portable remediation units. ACME serves midstream, upstream, and downstream oil and gas operations, environmental contractors, consultants, distributors, and industrial facilities requiring specialized environmental services. We deliver custom training programs including our renowned Boom School, hands-on equipment deployment courses, and scenario-based emergency response drills designed to meet operational and regulatory requirements.

We provide targeted training and drills leveraging 3D modeling and aerial perspectives, equipping teams with site-specific understanding of their responsibilities. ACME's Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filtration Trailer offers mobile treatment for groundwater remediation, wastewater treatment, underground storage tank cleanup, and pipeline hydrotesting, effectively removing VOCs, pesticides, herbicides, and chlorine from contaminated liquid streams.
